Board Updates & Membership:

During our June Annual Membership meeting Jeff Kinney, Denise Marshall and Larry Benson were elected for another three-year term on our Board of Directors. The Board then elected

the 2026-27 Officers listed above.

If you would like to become a member of the Museum you can view and print the application from our membership page on the website. If you need to update your membership information print and submit a new application. Also, if you no longer wish to be included on our membership list let us know.

Our 13th Annual Great Museum Treasure Hunt is still going on through July 25 th . Students in K-12 have spent the summer weekends locating artifacts and answering questions about the

artifacts. Students who answered correctly were given Certificates to Leono’s for a Mini-Pan

Pizza and allowed to enter for a weekly drawing of $10 and Cookies from Avi’s Oven Art. All

correct answers are eligible for a $250 drawing, thanks to City National Bank, at the end of

the Treasure Hunt on July 25th .

We continue to update our Civil War Letters from the Jones Family. You can click the link

here to this wonderful set of letters between a Harrison County soldier and his wife during the war. You can hear the letters being read as you follow along. It really is quite a remarkable addition to our Museum, and one that we are happy to share with the public.

Books For Sale

The Harrison County Historical Society has recently reprinted Virgil Peddicord’s book: Cynthiana Since 1790. Copies are available for purchase from the Museum for $30 ($36 if mailed). View our other books for sale here! Copies can be shipped with an additional $6

shipping/handling cost added.

250 Year Celebration

For the month of June and July the Museum has featured in the Cynthiana Democrat’s

Museum Corner Section information on Ruddell’s Station. In an effort to celebrate our

nation’s 250th Anniversary, the Museum hoped to highlight that Harrison County is the only

county in Kentucky to have both a Revolutionary (Ruddell’s Station) and Civil War Battle

(Cynthiana) Site. With this as a goal, The Museum and the Historical Society will be bringing Jon Hagee to the Cynthiana Christian Church on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 5:00 p.m., to speak on Ruddell’s Station and what took place there in 1780. Jon Hagee is a past president of the Ruddell’s and Martin Station Historical Association (RAMSHA). Jon is a direct descendant of inhabitants

who experienced the Massacre during the attack. The public is invited and members of the Cynthiana/Harrison County Trust, Inc. are encouraged to attend. For more information on Ruddell’s Station, check out the RAMSHA website.

Civil War Battle Sites

On July 17th the Chamber of Commerce launched a newer version of the Civil War Battle Sites

Driving Tour. New signage and the addition of QR codes will allow for a more in depth understanding of what took place during the battles. The tour ends up at the Battle Grove Cemetery and participants are encouraged to follow up the tour with a visit to our Museum. We are most grateful that the Museum is getting this publicity.

Community Outreach

Cynthiana’s Honey Festival will be held on Saturday, September 11th . The Museum will man a

booth on Pike Street. Mark your calendar for the event.

Also, plans are to have a “Museum Table” available at the Rohs Opera House during the

“Ghost Walks” in the fall. Chronicles of Cynthiana by Lucinda Boyd will be available for

purchase along with information about the Museum. Information about purchasing tickets

for the walks can be found on the Rohs website.

October Planning

During October, the Museum will be visited by the skeletons of Cynthia and Anna. Their

antics with our resident skeleton, Dead Fred, will be posted on our Facebook Page. If you

have never checked out our “skeleton adventures” over the past years, this coming fall is an

excellent opportunity to see a different side of the Museum.
