Halloween Fun!

ree

Over the last six years the Museum’s friendly Skeletons: Dead Fred, Laughing Larry, and Little Louie, their dog, have had encounters with the remains of David Sheely, Lucinda Boyd and Death Valley Scotty. When the Museum volunteers close up at the end of the day, these “visitors” have been captured by Museum cameras roaming around the Museum and interacting with Museum displays. Although evidence of this phenomenon has been posted on the Museum’s Facebook Page each year, no living person has actually caught them in the act. Volunteers have been informed that this fall Daniel Boone will be visiting. So, readers, plan to follow Dead Fred, Laughing Larry, Little Louie and Daniel Boone the entire month of October on the Museum’s Facebook Page as they roam around the Museum and share bits of Cynthiana/Harrison County history through the eyes of this early pioneer.

Chautauqua Speaker

Given the advance notice of Daniel Boone’s visit, as part of our ongoing 31 st Anniversary, another Chautauqua Speaker Event provided by the Kentucky Humanities Council and the Cynthiana/Harrison County Trust, Inc. has been scheduled. Mark your calendar for Thursday, November 6th at 5:00 p.m. at the Cynthiana Christian Church. Kevin Hardesty, of Lexington, will portray Daniel Boone. If one has never attended a Chautauqua presentation, expect to be transported to another time and place. Daniel Boone’s life and experiences will take one back to the beginning of our area’s history and give insight into how our early pioneer settlers persevered. The Cynthiana/Harrison Co. Trust, Inc. hosted an earlier Chautauqua program featuring Betsy Smith as Jemima Boone. We are hoping for continued interest in these presentations. There will be a door prize awarded to one of the attendees of a pen and ink drawing of Fort Boonesborough by Robert A. Powell (1985.)

Veterans Day

In recognition of Veterans’ Day, the Museum will be promoting our Military Artifacts during November. We have a special interest in the stories we have collected with regard to Cynthiana/Harrison County Veterans. If anyone knows someone who has served in the military from our area we would like to hear his/her story and place it in our Military Binder of Veterans. This project was one of our first endeavors when the Museum opened over 31 years ago. It continues to be an ongoing project.

Museum Corner

Another ongoing project for over a year is the inclusion of “The Museum Corner” in the Cynthiana Democrat. Each month there are featured reprints from George Slade’s Museum Musings and John Cromwell’s, Cromwell’s Comments. In addition, there is a “What’s New At The Museum” article, as well as a reprint of a “Recipe” taken from one of our vintage cookbooks here at the Museum.

Museum on the Road

The Museum volunteers, Larry Benson and Mary Grable, will be taking the “Museum on the

Road.” November 17th at 3:00 p.m., some artifacts will be on display at the Cedar Ridge Campus on Oddville Road for the residents, who might not be able to travel to the Museum. A variety of interesting artifacts will be featured.

Share Meeting

On November 20th at 7:00 p.m., the Historical Society will meet at the Cynthiana Christian Church for its annual “Share” meeting. Members of the Cynthiana/Harrison County Trust, Inc., might also be interested in attending, as this is one of the most popular programs featuring personal and family artifacts and the history associated with them.
